We built Gathrik because we kept hearing the same thing from church leaders: "Why does software that helps us manage 100 members cost as much as software built for megachurches?"
Good question. We did not have a good answer either. So we built something different.
This is not a comparison article ranking every church platform (our friends at ChurchMemberPro do that well). This is a transparent look at what church software actually costs, why it costs that much, and what we decided to do about it when we built Gathrik.
What Church Software Actually Costs in 2026
Here is what a mid-size church (200 members) typically pays:
| What You Need | Typical Market Cost | What You Get |
|---|---|---|
| Member database only | $0-15/mo | Basic profiles, maybe family linking |
| + Online giving | $15-72/mo extra | Donation tracking, tax statements |
| + Communication (email/SMS) | $7-30/mo extra | Email blasts, text messaging |
| + Check-in | $15-50/mo extra | Children's security, attendance |
| + Volunteer scheduling | $15-50/mo extra | Shift management, assignments |
| + Branded church app | $89-299/mo extra | Your church in the app store |
| Typical total | $100-300+/mo | Everything above combined |
The per-module pricing model is the biggest cost driver. You start with a free member database, then every feature you actually need is a separate subscription. By the time you have giving, check-in, communication, and groups, you are paying $150+/month.
What We Decided to Build Instead
When we designed Gathrik's pricing, we started with three principles:
1. Every plan includes all features for that tier. No per-module fees. If you are on Standard, you get members, giving, communication, check-in, events, groups, volunteers, and engagement tracking. One price, everything included.
2. The free plan has to be actually useful. Not a bait-and-switch where you hit a wall in week two. Our free tier supports 75 members with attendance tracking, event management, email messaging, and QR check-in. A small church can run on this indefinitely.
3. Regional pricing matters. A church in Lagos with 300 members should not pay the same as a church in Dallas with 300 members. Their budgets are fundamentally different. We adjust pricing based on where your church is located.
Gathrik Pricing (Transparent, No Surprises)
| Plan | Monthly Cost | Members | Key Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0/mo | Up to 75 | Members, families, attendance, events, email, QR check-in |
| Standard | $29/mo | Unlimited | Everything in Free + giving, SMS, WhatsApp, groups, custom fields, tax statements |
| Pro | $59/mo | Unlimited | Everything in Standard + facilities, volunteer scheduling, multi-campus, advanced reporting, API access |
No annual contracts. No setup fees. Cancel anytime. 30-day free trial on paid plans with no credit card required.
Communication costs:
- Email: Included in all plans
- SMS: Credits system (varies by country, routed through cheapest provider)
- WhatsApp: Included on Standard and Pro (uses Meta Business API pricing)
Why We Can Charge Less
We get asked this a lot. "How can you include everything at $29/month when competitors charge $100+?"
Three reasons:
We do not have an enterprise sales team. You sign up online, set up your church in the onboarding wizard, and start using the product. No demo calls, no custom quotes, no annual contract negotiations. That sales infrastructure costs competitors $30-50 per customer per month. We pass those savings to you.
We built for efficiency, not legacy. Many church platforms started 10-15 years ago and carry significant technical debt. We built Gathrik recently with modern tools, which means lower infrastructure costs per church.
We are not trying to be everything. We do not build a website builder, a streaming platform, or a podcast host. We focus on church management, communication, and engagement. Doing fewer things well costs less than doing everything adequately.
The Tradeoffs (We Will Be Honest)
Gathrik is not the right fit for every church. Here is where competitors genuinely do more:
If you need worship planning tools, Planning Center Services is the best available. We have basic service planning with sermon tracking and participant scheduling, but it is not as deep as what Planning Center offers.
If you need a custom branded church app, Subsplash and Tithe.ly All-Access ($119/mo) include this. We do not build custom apps yet. Our member portal works on mobile browsers, but it is not a native app in the App Store.
If you need enterprise-grade donor analytics, Pushpay's engagement scoring and lapsed giver alerts are more sophisticated than our current analytics. We have engagement scoring for member activity, but our giving analytics are still basic.
If your church has 2,000+ members, talk to us about Pro pricing. Our standard tiers are optimized for small to mid-size churches.
What Makes Gathrik Different
Beyond pricing, three things set Gathrik apart:
WhatsApp messaging built in. Not an add-on, not a third-party integration. We connect directly to the Meta Business API. For churches in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the UK diaspora, WhatsApp is not optional. It is how your congregation communicates. Open rates exceed 98%.
SMS that routes smartly. When you send an SMS through Gathrik, we automatically route through the cheapest provider for each member's country. If your congregation spans Nigeria, the UK, and the US, you do not pay US SMS rates for every message.
Engagement scoring that catches drift. Every member gets a 0-100 engagement score based on attendance, group participation, volunteering, and communication. When someone starts drifting (score drops from "moderate" to "at risk"), the system flags it before they disappear entirely. Most churches notice someone left three months after it happened. Gathrik notices in weeks.
Try It
Start with the free plan. No credit card required. Set up your church in under 5 minutes with the onboarding wizard. If you outgrow 75 members, upgrade to Standard at $29/month.
